This artwork finished yesterday evokes a poignant time of year.
On the cusp of the passage from one year to the next, sadness and hope meld into one…
Thank you for following my work and encouraging me over this last year. It really means so much to me.
I wish you health and peace and all the very best for 2020 and the new decade.
I’d love to read your comment about this painting.
Hello John and thank you for your good wishes for the coming year. You are right – there is a particular mood as one year ends and a new one begins. We tend to reflect on the year that has passed and inevitably our thoughts move on to what may lie ahead. This lovely painting encapsulates it all so exquisitely. The chilly blues of the night sky are reflected onto the frozen snow and the mysterious, shadowy silhouettes of the trees create a melancholic atmosphere. However, this contrasts with an air of something we all need…HOPE! This manifests itself in the golden glow above the horizon until, as you say, the two meld together perfectly. It is an absolute gem. Thank you for sharing your wonderful art and I wish you good health, peace and success in 2020.
Thank you Chris for your good wishes and thoughtful comment
This is just beautiful work, as usual. Happy New Year!
Thanks very much Kate
Your end-of-year paintings always express that mood so well — of mournfulness, uncertainty, and a glimmer of something new, and perhaps hopeful. The cold landscape; the silent, shadowy trees; and that bewitching blue and magenta sky with the golden glow of the moon are the stuff of life, distilled. Thank you for this beautiful gift at the turning of the year and decade. Happy new year, John.
Hello Jo,
Thank you for your good wishes for the coming year. Yes the end of year painting always seems to have that tinge of ‘mournefulness’ and ‘hopefulness’ combined, that you mention. Thank you for your comment and for your wonderful insights on my work over the last year.
