The essence of this painting comes form the internal light present in three different areas. It adds mystery and depth to the piece.
Starting at the bottom, the green grassy earth radiates. It’s reminiscent of the bright shades of young grass you often see in Ireland. It guides you to walk through the painting and climb the hillside towards the silhouetted trees.
When you look at the trees, first you notice the deep indigo and violet forms. They stand out against the skyline but then, within the Rath, a yellow-orange colour lights them up, ember-like, from behind.
Next, your eyes move up to the evening sky. A puce and rose coloured glow resonates with the green of the earth.
At this time of year the veil between the worlds is thin. Have you been in a place where you have felt a deep sense of communion beyond knowing?
This sensation was the starting point of this painting.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Fantastic colours. The green is almost surreal!
Hello Robert,
Thank you for your comment.
Yes, I don’t mind a bit of surreal colour :).
For me the elements earth and air are a marriage in this painting – the landscape representing earth and the unseen mystical spirits symbolising air.
There is a union of both, each interdependent on each other and form a seamless bridge between the visible and invisible. A beautiful painting John!
Hello Irene,
That’s a very interesting insight into the painting. I really like the idea that you expressed about the seamless bridge in between the visible and invisible symbolised by earth and air. Thank you very much
the answer to your question John is yes, there are some amazing places on this earth…the emerald green creates on opening in your painting
Thanks you for the reply Julie. I agree about the green in the painting.
