This winter painting of Killary Harbour in Connemara is looking from county Galway across to the mountains in county Mayo. It’s the only fjord in Ireland.

This whole area is stunningly beautiful. I wondered what it might look like in winter with a dusting of snow.

To accentuate the chill and stillness of winter, I chose a palette of blues, purples/browns. The effect is quiet and static. The weight of land above the horizon line is balanced with the stillness of its reflection.

    Yes, yes, yes and yes again, John…simply beautiful..much like what we experienced in 2009 at the McGillicuddy’s Reeks near Killarney…this is one stunning work!!! Just absolutely gorgeous!!

    I think this would be magnificent if you could work it up to be 15x the size. Gallery material! But very nice and slightly different from your normally moody atmospheric work!

      Thank you for commenting. I do see what you mean about increasing the size on that panoramic format, food for thought! I do enjoy working on that shape. Glad you like the painting.
