This is the view looking west to Connemara from the bridge at Leam just outside
Oughterard, Ireland.
The bridge became famous as it featured at the start of the film “The Quiet Man” by John Ford. The scene
features John Wayne and Barry Fitzgerald.
The locals say that you could rebuild the stone bridge three times over, with the amount
of tourists who have bought a “genuine” piece of the bridge.
I visited there many years ago and took a photograph of the reflections in the water and the
floating weeds. The clear water and the bright coloured weeds gave the photograph an interesting
abstract look.
How very atmospheric and love the back story to the painting ……you have captured the movement and the way this sort of thing makes you reflect and stop, just for the moment
Thank you Julia for your kind words, much appreciated
Here is nature at its best John – the grass growing right up to the waters edge, the wonderful sky reflected on the water and the flash of colour from the floating weeds. Fantastic depiction.
Thank you Chris for your comment
Beautiful scene, very real.
Thanks a lot Rory
