It’s night-time.
The pale blue light of a full moon permeates the painting from behind the clouds and reaches the crashing waves.
We are aware of the relationship between moon and tides. This painting is about that relationship and more.
To be able to paint this piece I have to be part of it.
Have you experienced that when standing at the edge of something, especially next to an ocean or the sea?
Our connection to the elements is stronger and our racing mind becomes stilled.
All is one.
As with some of the previous paintings in this series, a circular motion is evident within the square format.
We enter the painting at bottom right. We sweep over the rocks to the wave and follow the spume to reach high into the air to touch the sky.
Then, we follow the clouds around to the right as they move across the horizon until we get to the fine veil of rain falling in the sea and we notice the approaching waves.
To complete the circle, a large wave moves forward to crash on land in a final link of the elements.
I’d love to hear what you think.
I see several people inside the ocean space you created John, their chests are open revealing their hearts, in one of the clouds there looks to be several eyes…intriguing painting
Hello Julie,
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, perhaps the title might reveal more than I had thought.
This is a wonderful, exciting composition John; it feels as though the sea and the sky might just burst from beyond the picture space. It is full of dynamism, movement and energy – a swirling vortex as the waves crash into the land. I have experienced it in life and you have captured the sensation I felt very well!
Hello Chris,
I couldn’t add anything to what you have said, it is just that a painting of ‘dynamism, movement and energy. I am glad that you have experienced it in life too, it is invigorating isn’t it? Thank you very much
The monochrome palette really pares this down to its essence: form, movement, and light. A visual manifestation of pure energy. Very powerful, John.
Hello Jo, Thank you very much for your comment. Yes it is a pretty energetic piece alright’! more about movement than colour
