Landscape painting of Stormy sky over a field of copper-coloured cereals called The Dancing Light by John O'Grady

The Dancing Light

20 cm x 20 cm x 4 cm, oil on canvas, ready to hang

In this piece, I wanted to create drama and energy.

To do so, I used a limited colour palette: burnt umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue and titanium white.

The reduced palette gives a unifying feel to the whole painting, and at the same time it serves to accentuate the contrast between dark and light.

Across the field, grasses sway from side to side to the rhythm of the unfolding drama high above in the sky.

Dark clouds sweep back and forth and cover the sun in a veil that diffuses light across the land.

Between the dark and the light, all is in a state of flux.

Can you feel the energy and charged mood of this artwork?
