Scattered across the whole of Ireland, these circular earthworks are ancient fortifications that mark the entrance to the fairy’s realm.
In this painting, I tried to capture the enchantment and magic of a fairy Rath on a night lit by the moon.
The trees on the hill are silhouetted against the violet night sky to create a sense of depth and perspective.
The sky is filled with a billowing cumulus cloud edged by the moonlight to add drama and movement to the composition.
