This painting is a bit more specific in terms of place and didn’t arise from imagination or through the process of painting.
It was a commission I finished last week. So I used photo references to capture the topography of the land.
The sea and sky were painted from memory. The ever shifting light falling upon the water over Killiney bay once seen is never forgotten.
The client was unable to buy it so I thought it would be interesting to show you the kind of commission work I can create.
This view is from Killiney Hill in South County Dublin, looking towards Dalkey Island.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Beautiful, John. I love the play of color in the sky and richness of the sea. Altogether, it’s just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this. If I had the bucks, I’d commission you do recreate each of our 3 trips to Ireland. And we’ve only just begun!!!
You are welcome Terry, glad you like it. Now that would be a great project, to be the official recorder of your trips but in paint form! As you say so many more trips
You are so right John it is a view that certainly stays within my memory and you have recreated it here in your own way. Once again, in this painting, you have captured that elusive Irish light and I particularly like the way you have introduced the gorse in the foreground – I can almost smell it!
Hello Chris,
Yes it certainly is a special spot, glad you like the gorse in the foreground. I know you’re a big fan. Thank you for your comment.
