Coming Home III, ©John O’Grady, 2013
Acrylic on Panel, 5″x 7″
This is the third in the series of aerial view paintings called Coming Home.
They are also about clouds and how they sometimes appear translucent, how they catch the light in a prism of colour and reveal their vaporous qualities.
This piece has a velvety feel not unlike pastels I achieved by using the vinyl colours of Lefranc & Bourgeois Flashe paints.
They are highly pigmented and retain high colour saturation.

I’d love to hear what you think of this painting.
I like this painting very much John. As you say, the texture is very smooth and velvety and your technique has created light pearlised clouds; transparent but with great depth of colour. I think it has other worldly, heavenly atmosphere.
Thank you Chris, this type of paint has certainly a different quality, which I think lends itself to this subject matter, food for thought. I am embarking on some big canvasses with these things in mind. I will see where it takes me, a bit like the painting flying by the seat of my pants
