I love this piece, it represents so much describing various views of individual’s 2016. It can be viewed as the departure of an exciting year departing in a blaze of glory. For me, I see it as a Year of angst upon which the sun is setting. Beautiful.

So very true what you have said, that time when we are on the cusp of change, particularly at this time of year is often tinged with mixed feelings, in your case’angst’ for the last year and then we can move forward towards the New Year. Thank you Di
It’s all about the sky.
In the thumbnail this looks deceptively simple. But above the dark horizon line, the heavens transform from hot yellow-orange to a cool and profound violet-blue. What a journey upward. Like a Rothko, this contains worlds of atmosphere and feeling, and it draws you into its depths. Such a beautiful way to send off what for many of us has been a painful and somber year and to prepare to welcome something new.

Thank you very much, you made me think about the painting as metaphor when you wrote ‘travelling upward on the journey’ through the painting. I wanted to try and make it really simple and and as much about the energy of colour as possible, to lead us into new year possibilities. Yes ‘it’s all about the sky’ I like that.
I often feel that when a sky is painted with such emotion, the painting is infused with the soul of the artist. It is so honest that it invites our unconscious to ask the questions we have been avoiding answering…A very compassionate piece of work John as we reflect, and prepare to renew…

What a wonderful sky! It captures so much about the human experience and how, at this time of year we may become absorbed in looking back at what has passed, forward to what lies ahead but also how looking up from that low horizon can bring its own rewards. A magnificent evocation, beautifully executed and full of passion and interest.
