This is a larger painting exploring the rich earth colours found in the bogland that is typical of the west of Ireland.

Raw and burnt sienna and umber give warmth to the earth and grasses.
These are balanced by the cool purple greys of the sky and bog pool.

The water of a bog pool has stillness and clear reflective qualities like a pool of cool mercury poured across a warm landscape.

A sense of drama is created by the series of light and dark bands that gives a rhythm to this painting.
