Description
This painting has a mystical quality that suggests duality.
The sun-bathed mountain side glows a lovely shade of red-orange that contrasts with the misty covered mountain top and the darker, fenced, flat bogland in the forefront.
It came about when I read the Blake quote:
“Great things are done when men and mountains meet; this is not done by jostling in the street.”
At first, man's mark was not apparent but then, I remembered the straight lines of fences that ran across the bog.
Perhaps, as Blake says, the ‘great things are done’ when we understand our relationship to the mountain.
A natural land mark can remind us of the solidity and permanence of its mass while man-made constructions are often relatively transitory.
